What is Targeted Therapeutic Massage?
Targeted therapeutic massage is a form of manual therapy that includes moving, holding, kneading, and applying pressure to muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia in areas of concern. Help with pain relief involves finding the right areas and applying the appropriate amount of pressure. If the amount of pressure feels ineffective or too deep, please let me know so I can work with your comfort level. If additional pressure is requested, I may use specific massage tools to provide additional pressure to areas of your body. You massage therapy session can be adapted to your individual needs and levels of mobility.
What if I have allergies?
If you have any allergies, please let me know ahead of time so I can accommodate your requests. I usually use unscented lotion from Biotone. I have several allergies and sensitivities so I understand these needs and appreciate it if my clients can limit the use of cologne and strong scents.
Why are there so many different kinds of massage?
No one type of massage works for everyone and massage is a word that encompasses a broad range of practices. In my practice, I embrace evidence-based science and work against some of the long-held misconceptions and pseudoscience concerning receiving massage. Massage, in some form, can benefit everyone.
Where will my massage or bodywork session take place?
Your massage or bodywork session will take place in a warm, comfortable, quiet room. Soft music may be played to help you relax. You will lie on a table especially designed for your comfort.
Must I be completely undressed?
Most massage and bodywork techniques are traditionally performed with the client unclothed; however, it is entirely up to you what you want to wear. You should undress to your level of comfort. You will be properly draped during the entire session and only those areas being worked on will be exposed. I will leave the room while you undress and get under the table linens.
What parts of my body will be massaged?
A typical full-body session include work on your back, arms, legs, feet, hands, head, neck, and shoulders. However, with targeted therapeutic work, I will often focus on those areas of discomfort the entire time, or will spend more time on those areas than the rest of the body.

How often should I get a massage?
Get a massage as often as you want to maintain your health goals. Every body is unique and responds differently to massage. Many feel relaxation and relief from muscle tension from massage. However, some individuals have tension that has built up through the years and it may take several visits to feel relief in certain areas of tension. Considering your health goals, it is fine to have massage therapy on a regular basis.
Are there any medical conditions that would make massage or bodywork inadvisable?
There could be some medical conditions of concern. That's why it is important that you inform me of any health problems, including what medications and supplements you are taking. Depending on the condition, alterations to the massage may have to be made.
